We found nice little spot in Victor, ID just over Teton Pass from Jackson and this place was awesome! Such a cute little town, tons of mountain biking and trail running right from our Airbnb and even more exploring just a quick drive away. This was a perfect home-base for 2 weeks while we worked during the days and explored during evenings and weekends. Our Airbnb hosts were avid mountain bikers too so we got a ton of local beta!

view of The Grand, Middle and South Tetons

I still had a little PTSD from attempting our Middle Teton summit last year with way more snow than expected, so instead of attempting that again, we opted for a different view of the Tetons (and stayed on the ID side) summiting Table Mountain. It was a short and steep hike! Still had a ton of snow the top 2 miles (out of 4 miles) but offered a great new perspective for us of the peaks.

The time here flew pretty quick. Tom’s sister Anna and her boyfriend Nick were camping and fishing in the area and came to stay with us for a night! Tom got some fishing tips from Nick and Anna and I hung out in the wildflowers enjoying the view. A few days later our friends Reid and Whit had joined us in Victor, camping outside the Airbnb and working during the day too and scoping out camping spots. It was really fun having some familiar faces around!

We found a camping spot well out of the way just south of Jackson, which made for long-ish drives but allowed us to avoid the crowds of Jackson for the most part. The weekend of the 4th was filled with downhill shuttled biking, SUPing on lakes and hiking to beautiful alpine lakes. Not sure what more we could have asked for!

The guys were really stoked on getting shuttled to the top of Teton Pass for a 3000′ descent. One of the days, they did shuttle laps while us ladies did yoga at the top of Teton Village, my body very much needed this stretch and the views were unbeatable! To get a little extra movement in that day, Whit and I hiked down the mountain and came upon the best find… a swing! It was perfectly situated in a nice big tree and you ended up swinging over the hillside full of wild flowers while looking over the valley. I didn’t want to leave!

The next day we grabbed bagels in town to fuel up for our hike through Teton National Park to Delta Lake, it was about 9 miles round trip, a highly trafficked trail but for good reason… the alpine lake views! It gave Tom and I a flashback to hiking up to Torres del Paine Lake in Patagonia – high alpine lake, easy hike with some scrambling at the top and beautiful spikey peaks/ towers behind the bright blue water. We added an extra challenge to keep a fast pace on the way up because, why not? But these views were worth everything to get them!

the start of the descent

Reid gettin fancy

Then the day came for us ladies to do our first shuttle. Boy was I nervous! 3000′ of descent is a lot and once you commit you can’t really bail, unless you want to bike back to the top. That didn’t really seem like an option. So, with our trusty guides, Whit and I set off down this big ass descent with Coach Tom in front and Reid making sure no one was left behind. The trail is a blue, but just knowing the commitment level escalated things for me. But, it was awesome! After about the first 1/4 I finally settled in and found my groove. Thankfully nothing was crazy technical beyond what we’ve done before, just getting used to riding over roots for the most part and taking some breaks to shake out the legs. I had mixed feelings when we realized the trail had ended. I certainly didn’t want to do ALL of that again right away, but I will certainly do it again another day! The post ride beers at Stagecoach (a saloon/ restaurant at the base of the pass) were much welcomed after that accomplishment.

Our final day was heading back into Teton Park for a mini hike to Phelps Lake.
