Hi there! Thanks for joining us on our journey! This will serve as a digital diary of our upcoming adventure, mainly through the eyes of Anni. I’ve never blogged before, but am determined to keep this thing afloat, especially since everyone says it will be impossible. So, stick with me and I will share a more elaborate version of our happenings here, then what we post on instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you know us, you know we like to play outside. And thanks to Tom, I’ve had a lot of full-value weekends since meeting him. We’ve been on 10-day van trips through a handful of national parks. We can be found mountain biking, climbing, hiking, trail running, backpacking or having a slow morning reading in the van. If we’re having a local weekend, there’s still some amount of all those things plus the added woodshop making and happy hour or backyard fire pit. Oh yea, and our dog Izzy. She usually joins us on 99% of these things, even supervising in the woodshop, laying on her bed and chewing a toy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This whole journey started when Tom invited me to join him to New Zealand for 6 weeks during his sabbatical from work. If I was gone for 6 weeks, I’d have to quite my job. If I was going to quit my job, I was going to be gone longer than 6 weeks. Somehow a few weeks turned into a year and here we are! About to start one of the craziest (if not the craziest) adventure of our lives! If I think about it too much, I think “I can’t possibly do this. It’s going to be so tough and challenging and it’s impossible to wrap my head around”. But that’s why we do these things, right? I’ve learned I grow the most when I’m out of my element, challenged mentally and physically and come out realizing I’m more capable than I think I am. It also helps having someone there by your side, holding your hand and laughing with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So here’s to a year of growth, challenges, uncomfortable situations, amazing situations, meeting incredible new people, unforgettable memories and some oh-shit moments!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little update:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clearly our plans for the year changed like the rest of you. Instead of a year long trip around the world, it’s turned into 10 weeks between South American and southern Africa and now a whole lot of van life. Check out our blog posts about us coming back to the US. None the less, it’s still a year of growth, incredibly different challenges than we thought and still sticking to our plan or adventuring and seeing new places (and old places). We’re technically still on our world adventure, just a little closer to home and the best part? We haven’t killed each other yet.. not even close! Which is a great sign since we’ve had a lot to learn of ourselves, of each other and of us as a unit. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
